Manchester United fought off adversity to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, despite being reduced to ten men following Patrick Dorgu’s first-half dismissal.
Harry Maguire’s towering header early in the second half sealed the win for Ruben Amorim’s side, capping off a pulsating encounter.
The match started in electrifying fashion, with Ipswich drawing first blood before United found their way back into the contest.
The visitors stunned the home crowd in the 13th minute when Liam Delap’s pressing led to a defensive error, allowing Ipswich to capitalise.
However, United quickly responded in the 23rd minute when Samy Morsy inadvertently headed a Bruno Fernandes free-kick into his own net, bringing the score level at 1-1.
United took the lead just three minutes later as Matthijs de Ligt reacted fastest to a rebound inside the box, smashing the ball into the top left corner.
The advantage, however, was short-lived as Ipswich restored parity just before half-time. Jaden Philogene showcased his individual brilliance, controlling a pass on the edge of the box before rifling a shot into the bottom left corner to make it 2-2.
The tide seemed to turn against United in the 43rd minute when Patrick Dorgu received a straight red card following a VAR review for a reckless challenge.
Despite being a man down, United remained resilient and found a way to regain the lead early in the second half. Fernandes, a constant threat throughout the game, delivered an inch-perfect corner for Maguire, who powered a header past Alex Palmer to put United 3-2 ahead in the 47th minute.
Ipswich fought hard for an equaliser, with George Hirst and Jaden Philogene both coming close, but Andre Onana stood firm in goal.
United’s defence, marshalled by Maguire and De Ligt, withstood a late Ipswich onslaught to grind out a crucial victory.
