The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Adamu Aliyu, revealed that the commission recovered more than N13 billion in misappropriated public funds during September 2024 alone.
Aliyu made the announcement in Abuja at the launch of the ICPC’s 2024-2028 strategic action plan.
Aliyu emphasized the commission’s significant strides in fulfilling its mandate, stating, “In the past year, the ICPC has achieved remarkable progress, highlighted by the recovery of over ₦13 billion in diverted public funds last month.
This is just one example of our unwavering commitment to our mission.”
He also outlined plans for ICT reforms aimed at digitizing the commission’s operations to enhance investigations, case management, and internal processes.
“This transformation will position the ICPC as a leader in utilizing technology to combat corruption, ensuring we stay ahead of criminal activities in this digital age,” he added.
Furthermore, Aliyu announced efforts to decentralize anti-corruption initiatives by empowering state governments through the engagement of State Attorneys General.
This strategy. he said is designed to equip local governments with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to effectively tackle corruption at the grassroots level.
Nigerianewsabroad reports that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, said the battle against corruption is a cornerstone of this administration’s agenda,.
“As we recognize it as a cancer that erodes the very foundation of our society. It undermines trust, weakens institutions, and hinders national progress,” he stated.
Fagbemi highlighted the critical role of the ICPC in not only identifying and prosecuting corrupt practices but also in promoting a culture of integrity and accountability across all sectors.
