Nigerian international Ademola Lookman delivered a stellar performance, scoring twice and assisting two goals as Atalanta dismantled Verona 6-1 in a Serie A clash at home on Saturday.
Lookman’s remarkable display earned him the Man of the Match, as he proved instrumental in the comprehensive victory.
The action began early, with Marten de Roon putting Atalanta ahead in the 6th minute, driving a powerful shot into the right post.
Just minutes later, Mateo Retegui doubled the lead in the 9th minute, firing in a rebound that found the left post.
Lookman made his first attempt on goal in the 14th minute, but Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo pulled off a sharp save.
Undeterred, Lookman opened his account in the 29th minute, weaving past defenders to bury a stunning shot into the bottom left corner, pushing the score to 4-0.
Five minutes later, Lookman struck again, receiving a precise pass inside the box and slotting it past the keeper with a brilliant finish, making it 5-0.
Verona found a brief respite in the 42nd minute when Amin Sarr unleashed an impressive shot from the edge of the box, reducing the deficit to 5-1.
However, Atalanta regained control in the 58th minute when Retegui scored his second of the match, sealing a decisive 6-1 victory.
