Police investigations revealed that Adejumo allegedly took his employer’s master keys from the housekeeping store, used them to access a guest’s safe, and stole $600 while the guest was out, unaware that CCTV cameras captured the act.
The theft came to light when the guest returned to discover the money missing from the safe in the hotel room.
Raising an alarm, the hotel manager reviewed the CCTV footage, which reportedly showed Adejumo committing the theft.
Following the discovery, the hotel manager contacted the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Maroko Division, CSP Ganiyu Raji, who directed a team led by Inspector Otolor Monday to arrest the suspect.
Adejumo, from Kogi State, was charged at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos Island, on a single count of stealing.
Prosecution counsel, Inspector Hafsat Ajibode, informed the court that the offence occurred on 19 and 25 October 2024 at Victoria Island, Lagos.
Ajibode explained that Adejumo betrayed the trust placed in him by his employer, using the stolen master key to access the guest’s safe.
The alleged offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
Adejumo pleaded not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Mrs Gbajumo Ayoku granted him bail of N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The case was adjourned, and Adejumo was remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility until he fulfilled the bail conditions.
