Police vow to find killers of three children in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has vowed to track down those responsible for the gruesome murder of three siblings in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Ikioye Orutugu, made this pledge during a condolence visit to the bereaved family and an on-the-spot assessment of the crime scene.

Unidentified assailants had reportedly sneaked into the residence of Mr Ejezie Udochukwu, killed his three children, and stuffed their bodies inside a deep freezer.

The victims were Chikaima, nine; Chimziterem, eight; and Chimdirim, five.

Speaking at the crime scene, Orutugu described the incident as horrific and assured the public that justice would be served.

“We are here today for an on-the-spot assessment of this tragic incident. The murder of three innocent siblings and their disposal in a fridge is an unimaginable act of cruelty.

“I also came to console the bereaved family and reassure them that the police are fully committed to unraveling the circumstances surrounding this crime and bringing the culprits to justice.”

The CP reiterated his determination to restore public confidence in security operations across the state, promising to take decisive action against criminal elements.

“I am in Anambra to reclaim public spaces from criminals and uphold law and order. Our vision is to strengthen security, curb violent crimes, and prevent further attacks on innocent residents,” he said.

Orutugu also highlighted recent strides in combating insecurity, noting that the launch of Operation Udo Ga Chi (Operation Peace Must Prevail) has fostered greater collaboration between security agencies, government, and residents.

He assured the public that the police command would intensify crime prevention efforts through intelligence gathering, strategic deployments, and partnerships with sister security agencies, vigilante groups, and community stakeholders.

“Anambra is home to vibrant and industrious people with great potential. This potential can only be fully harnessed in a peaceful and secure environment,” he added.

The CP urged journalists to report security matters professionally and objectively to aid crime-fighting efforts. He also called on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and stability.

In a stern warning to criminals, Orutugu advised those involved in illicit activities to surrender or face the full force of the law.

“A stitch in time saves nine,” he cautioned.
