French President Emmanuel Macron has declared that Europe is entering a “new era” marked by growing security threats and economic uncertainties, citing Russia’s continued aggression in Ukraine and the shifting stance of the United States.
Speaking in a televised address, Macron expressed concerns over the US changing its position on the Ukraine war while simultaneously considering trade tariffs against Europe.
He warned that security has become more uncertain, stressing that France itself is not immune to the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“The threat of Russia is there, and it is touching us,” Macron said, emphasizing that France’s security is at stake.
He argued that if one country could invade another without consequence, then no nation could be certain of its own safety.
The French president accused Russian leader Vladimir Putin of targeting hospitals and manipulating public opinion through social media, warning that Russia’s ambitions could extend beyond Ukraine.
Macron made it clear that the path to peace does not involve sacrificing Ukraine’s sovereignty.
He asserted that Russia has repeatedly violated past ceasefire agreements, making it impossible to trust its leadership.
