CBEX fraud: Promoter Adefowora Abiodun turns self in to EFCC

By Olaitan Ibrahim

Adefowora Abiodun, a promoter of the cryptocurrency trading platform, Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX), has voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The EFCC had declared Abiodun and five others wanted over allegations of involvement in a $1 billion fraudulent investment scheme.

Abiodun turned himself in at the EFCC headquarters, at around 4:00 p.m. on Monday.

The suspect, who was accompanied by his lawyers, expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation.

The EFCC had obtained a court order to arrest Abiodun and the other CBEX promoters – Adefowora Oluwanisola, Emmanuel Uko, Seyi Oloyede, Avwerosuo Otorudo, and Chukwuebuka Ehirim – pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution.

The development marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation as Abiodun’s surrender demonstrates that all hope may not be lost for Nigerians who lost their hard-earned money in the scheme.

The EFCC continues to probe the alleged offenses, and further actions are expected as the investigation unfolds.
