Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday reinforced his administration’s dedication to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the state, with particular emphasis on emergency response, maternal care, and disease prevention.

Speaking during the official handover of the newly completed Custodian Accident and Emergency Centre in Epe, Sanwo-Olu described the facility as a “bold step forward” in the state’s ongoing quest to enhance access to quality healthcare services, especially for residents in riverine and rural communities.

The emergency centre, a product of a public-private collaboration between the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation, is equipped with triage units, fully fitted emergency wards, diagnostic areas, staff lounges, and modern waiting spaces.

It is designed to provide immediate, life-saving care to the people of Epe and its environs.

“This centre is not just a building — it is a vital facility that can mean the difference between life and death,” the Governor said. “With state-of-the-art equipment and structured treatment areas, it will not only save lives but also improve staff efficiency, response time, and public confidence in our health system.”

Sanwo-Olu commended Custodian Investments Limited for its role in funding the project, hailing the company’s strong commitment to corporate social responsibility.

He also lauded the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the implementation team for their diligence in seeing the project through to completion.

“Our administration will not relent in its efforts to make timely and efficient emergency care a right, not a luxury,” he said.

“We will continue to invest in facilities that uphold the health, safety, and dignity of every resident of Lagos.”

The Governor also called on healthcare professionals, community leaders, and the people of Epe to take ownership of the centre, support its operations, and ensure it remains a lasting symbol of hope and healing.

Earlier in the day, Sanwo-Olu visited Charterhouse Lagos Secondary School in Lekki, where he praised the institution’s serene learning environment and investment in top-tier educational facilities.

“This is a good ground for learning. It’s clear that the students are at the centre of everything they’re doing here,” he noted.

Also speaking at the Epe event, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, reiterated the government’s resolve to deepen public-private partnerships, particularly in the area of health insurance and emergency medical care.

He added that the state would continue to pursue sustainable models that enhance the delivery of critical health services to all Lagosians.

The Custodian Accident and Emergency Centre is part of a broader strategy by the Sanwo-Olu administration to expand healthcare access, improve outcomes, and build a resilient health system that can serve the fast-growing population of the state.
