The presidency has described report that Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has been appointed the chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC as ‘untrue’ and ‘fabricated by agents of mischief.’
Bayo Onanuga, the spokesperson to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made the denial in a statement issued late Saturday.
The statement was issued following speculations and reports by some media platforms that Akume has been appointed the APC National Chairman in replacement of Abdullahi Ganduje who resigned his position on Friday.
The reports had also indicated that President Tinubu had appointed his special adviser, Hadiza Usman as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
However, in the statement he issued late Saturday, Onanuga dismissed the speculations, describing them as fake news
According to him, the President who is currently in St. Lucia has not made any fresh appointment.
The statement reads: “There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Senator George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently in Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointments.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue. Agents of mischief fabricated it.
“The Presidency advises Nigerians to disregard the fake news.
