Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has declared her Grammy-winning colleague, Wizkid, as the king of Afrobeats.
A source reports that there is an ongoing debate over the superiority of Afrobeats powerhouses Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, otherwise called the “Big 3.”
Speaking in a recent interview with Complex, Ayra Starr boldly declared Wizkid as the king of the genre.
She explained that she decided to feature the Starboy crooner in her hit song ‘Gimme Dat’ because no one does “sexy Afrobeats” better than him.
“Nobody else could have been right on that song [‘Gimme Dat’] aside from Wizkid. Even just his sonics and the sound, the chorus pattern feels very Wizkid; it feels very like sexy Afrobeats. And everybody knows Wizkid is the king of sexy Afrobeats,” she said.
