Messi chooses World Cup trophy over Ballon d’Or honour

Argentine forward Lionel Messi, recently shared his thoughts on career priorities and life after football.

According to Fabrizio Romano’s X post on Wednesday, when asked whether he would prefer to win another World Cup or another Ballon d’Or, Messi was unequivocal, “World Cup or another Ballon d’Or? Another World Cup.”

The Argentine superstar’s comments highlight his passion for international success, following Argentina’s triumph at the 2022 World Cup.

Despite his record-breaking haul of individual awards, Messi opted for team glory on the global stage above personal accolades.

When asked whether he would prefer to be a club owner or a manager after retiring, the Argentine superstar said, “I’d say club owner.”

A source had reported that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner shared his thoughts on a potential appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, saying he remains excited about the idea but will only take part if he feels physically capable of helping the Argentina national team.
