My Experience in Nigerian Football, Bitter Sweet- Segun Solanke

President of Olumo United Football Club, Segun Solanke has related his involvement in Nigerian football as a bitter-sweet experience.

Segun Solanke said this in an interview with journalists in Lagos after the valiant but ineffectual endeavour of his team to pick up the qualification ticket at the NLO zonal matches played at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium, Ado Ekiti.

Olumo United Football Club, fondly called The Citizens by their teeming fans, made its debut in the Nigerian football league and placed fourth on the log after the qualification games.

On his opinions about the Nigerian football league and its operation system, USA-trained Solanke commented from his observations that it was a systematic and cultural shock for him. Particularly, the structure and organisation of Nigerian football

While he expressed his dismay over some issues during the NLO zonal league games in Ado-Ekiti that eventually affected his team’s qualification dreams, he however took solace in the valiant efforts, discipline, and determination of his players and the technical crew throughout the matches.

” We have our shortcomings, but, as a new team in the system, we will have flaws. But on a first outing and with little time to prepare, we believe, we can do more with time” Solanke enthused confidently.

He went on to disclose plans to celebrate players and officials of the team on their modest, but impressive performances.

Stating that the management would organize an event to express its appreciation, entertain as well as reward them with cash prizes.
