Bola Ajibola, former minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, has died at the age of 89.
A family source who confirmed his death to TheCable said the former minister passed away in the early hours of Sunday.
“Asalamaleikun. With a very deep heart and gratitude to Almighty Allah… Our Dad Prince Bola Ajibola departed this world over the midnight,” the family source wrote.
“May Almighty Allah bless him with Aljanah Firdaus.”
Ajibola was the minister for justice from 1985 to 1991 under the military government led by Ibrahim Babangida.
From 1991 to 1994, he was a judge of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands.
Ajibola was also appointed the high commissioner of Nigeria to the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2002.
He also had a one-year tenure as the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
He was the founder of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Ajibola’s death comes seven years after Olufunmilayo, his wife, died in London.
He has been buried according to the Islamic rites at the Islamic Mission for Africa Centre, Abiola Way Abeokuta, his hometown in Ogun State.
