The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Kawu Sumaila has revealed that principal officers of the National Assembly will be in Cote d’Ivoire to watch the Super Eagles take on the Palancas Negras of Angola in the quarter-finals match of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON on Friday.
The Nigerian national football team defeated the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.
Sumaila said apart from the principal officers, the chairpersons of the Committee of Sports of both chambers will also be in Abidjan to watch the match.
He revealed this in Abuja while commenting on the performance of the Super Eagles so far in the ongoing AFCON.
He said apart from the principal officers, the National Assembly joint Committees on Sports will also travel to Abidjan to support the Super Eagles.
“I am happy with the performance of the Nigerian team at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
“The principal officers of the National Assembly and the two Committees on Sports will also be in Cote d’Ivoire to watch the quarter-finals with Angola,” Sumaila said.
The Kano lawmaker however said he is optimistic about the victory of the Super Eagles against Angola despite lack of confidence in the coach of the Nigerian team, Jose Peseiro by some fans.
“We will look at it after the competition, am sure of victory for the Super Eagles against Angola.”
