She began her musical journey in 1996 and gained experience as a backup vocalist for global stars like Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, and Destiny’s Child.
Her international career soared after competing in the UK edition of The X Factor in 2006, where she reached the top 24 contestants.
In 2009, she signed a major publishing deal with Sony/ATV Music, writing hits for artists like Jaicko and Kat DeLuna. Savage earned her first Grammy nomination in 2010 through her collaboration with Fantasia on the track “Collard Greens & Cornbread.”
Tiwa Savage’s return to Nigeria in 2010 marked a turning point in her career, as she quickly became a household name with her Afrobeat-inspired sound.
Over the years, she has released multiple chart-topping albums and collaborated with renowned artists worldwide.
Fans have expressed a mix of sadness and gratitude at the news, with many acknowledging Savage’s great contributions to the Nigerian music industry and Afrobeats. While the star has not confirmed an official retirement, her statement hints at a possible farewell to music-making after nearly three decades of excellence.
