Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 133rd international goal as Portugal secured a commanding 3-1 victory against Poland in the UEFA Nations League on Saturday.
The match, played away from home, showcased Ronaldo’s enduring prowess alongside a standout performance from his teammates.
The scoring opened in the 26th minute when Bernardo Silva capitalised on a precise headed pass from Bruno Fernandes, firing a shot from inside the box to give Portugal an early lead at 1-0.
Just 11 minutes later, Ronaldo doubled the advantage for the visitors.
After Rafael Leão’s promising shot hit the post, the rebound fell perfectly for Ronaldo, who swiftly dispatched the ball into the bottom right corner, leaving Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski with no chance.
Despite a determined response from Poland, including a near miss from Robert Lewandowski, who sent a header just wide in the 55th minute, Portugal maintained control of the match.
Bruno Fernandes came close to extending the lead but was denied by a superb save from Skorupski shortly after.
Poland found a glimmer of hope in the 78th minute when Piotr Zielinski received a clever pass from Kacper Urbanski and sent a measured shot past the Portuguese goalkeeper, reducing the deficit to 2-1.
However, Portugal sealed the victory late in the game when Jan Bednarek inadvertently deflected a shot into his own net, bringing the final score to 3-1 in favor of the visitors.
