The 14th edition of the Headies Awards was held on Sunday, February 21, 2021. The prestigious events had de cream de la cream of the entertainment industry in attendance.
The Headies award was held at the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort in Ibeju-Lekki, Nigeria.
The 14th Headies award was hosted by TV personality and famous Nigeria actress, Nancy Isime and Nigeria comedian, Bovi Ugbuoma.
The 14th Headies award was called “Peculiar” as the event which holds every December was moved to February due to the 2020 pandemic.
Stand-up comedian, Bovi however stunned the event with an EndSars-themed outfit depicting the blood-stained flag of Nigeria.
Passing a silent message against police brutality, killings, maiming, extortion and man inhumanity to man, Bovi rocked a shirt stained with blood.
The shirt which has Green, White, Green as its colour symbolizes the Nigerian flag. At the night when #EndSars protesters were allegedly shot, Nigerian youths flaunted a flag allegedly stained with blood.
Headies announced Fireboy DML leading with nine nominations. Davido and Wurld, followed right behind with seven nominations each, while Burna Boy, the previous Artiste of the Year, secured six nominations.
In a forward-looking move, this year also saw the Headies include Songwriter of the Year. With performances from DJ Neptune, Fireboy, and The Cavemen, viewers were treated to a good time. Omah Lay carted home the “Next Rated” award.
