Burna Boy Releases New video for Hit Song, ‘23’

Nigerian Grammy Award winner, Burna Boy has released a new video for his hit song, “23”.

According to reports, the song fits in with Women’s History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society.

The song, which appeared on his critically-acclaimed 2020 album, Twice As Tall, was inspired by basketball legend Micheal Jordan who wore the number 23 jersey while playing for the Chicago Bulls.  Burna Boy also referenced this in the chorus saying the music makes him feel like Jordan.

The video was directed by Clarence Peters, the son of veteran musician, Sir Shina Peters. The video is also said to pay homage to women from all areas of human endeavour and nationalities.

The music video was released over a week after Burna Boy won the coveted Grammys. He Passed the message of ‘Impossible is Nothing,’ the music video narrates different impossibilities becoming possibilities.

In the video, a basketball champion, wheelchair-ridden from birth, and an aspiring female songwriter and music producer who grew up in orphanages, all rise to conquer new heights.

The song 23 is written with a mix of English, Pidgin English and Yoruba, and  comes from a place of transformation, maturity, and growth close with the African Giant’s palpable excitement.

The big idea for this visual, it was gathered, was to shed light and give a platform to under-celebrated creative people and athletes all over the world. The song was produced by Skread.
