A horrific accident along the Onitsha-Oba Expressway in Idemili South Local Government Area has claimed the lives of four men, with another sustaining injuries.

The crash, which took place on Friday, is believed to have been caused by route violation, leading to a devastating head-on collision.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander for Anambra, Mrs. Joyce Alexander, confirmed the tragic incident.

The crash involved a private Toyota Hummer bus, a government-owned Toyota Hummer bus, and a Mercedes-Benz tipper.

Eyewitnesses reported that one of the vehicles had been driving against traffic, setting off a chain of events that led to the fatal collision.

A total of five male adults were involved in the crash; tragically, four lost their lives at the scene, while one survivor was rushed to the hospital with injuries.

The rescue effort was delayed due to an attack by local youths from the Oba community, who hindered the FRSC team’s operations.

However, with support from the Anambra State Anti-tout personnel, the rescue operation was eventually carried out, and the wreckage was cleared.

Alexander expressed her condolences to the families of the victims and issued a stern warning to motorists against dangerous driving and route violations.

She appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities during rescue operations, stressing that any delay in clearing accidents could result in further loss of life.

“Drive to stay alive; safety is everyone’s responsibility,” she urged, as the FRSC continues to manage traffic flow on the expressway.
