Media personality Daddy Freeze has spoken out in defense of legendary Nigerian singer 2Baba (Innocent Idibia) following the announcement of his separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.
The music icon’s disclosure of his marital troubles has sent shockwaves across social media, with different reactions from fans and critics.
In a live video on Instagram, Daddy Freeze admonished Nigerians against canceling 2Baba over his flaws. Drawing parallels with Biblical figures, he noted how several men in the Bible also had imperfections but still achieved greatness.
According to the former radio host, 2Baba’s lifestyle has always been public knowledge, and his philandering ways were evident before his marriage to Annie.
“Neither of them is an angel or a demon. They both have their faults. I’m close to both of them, so I won’t take sides,” Daddy Freeze said. He added that while the viral video of 2Baba with his alleged new girlfriend has fueled criticism, it’s important to remember that the singer has been consistent in his behavior throughout his life.
The media personality questioned why people expected the singer to change post-marriage, considering his history. “Before the wedding, he was like that. During the marriage, he was like that. How did we expect him to suddenly become a Catholic priest? Maybe we were expecting too much,” he noted.
Daddy Freeze emphasized that 2Baba’s actions should not overshadow his immense contributions to African music. “Let’s not judge or cancel him for his flaws. Let’s give him credit for his achievements. Solomon, Moses, and Abraham in the Bible all had flaws, yet they were still celebrated.”
Addressing those vowing to “show” 2Baba, including public figures like Toke Makinwa, Daddy Freeze urged a more understanding approach. “This man has been the same all his life. Let’s learn to manage our expectations.”
