The manager of Aba based Nigerian Football Club, Enyimba, Fatai Osho says he is to blame for the team’s elimination from the CAF Champions League and not his players. Enyimba defeated El Merreikh 2-1 at the Aba Township Stadium on Wednesday, but the Sudanese side advanced with a 4-2 aggregate win – they won 3-0 in the first-leg.
In a statement, Osho hinted that his boys tried their best to turn the tie around, but a poor start and fantastic display from the El Merreikh goalkeeper made the game more difficult for his team.
Osho added that he’s responsible for the results and not his players.
“The blame is on me, I take responsibility for the result, if the team had won, the fans would have been clapping for me and if the team fail to do well, the fans will go against me.
“But look at the chances we created and the saves their goalkeeper made, you have to give credit to the goalkeeper; he had a good day.
“We didn’t score in their home, we scored two here but unfortunately their early goal weakened us,” he said.
Fatai Osho and his boys have now dropped to the second tier of Africa’s elite football competition in the CAF Confederation Cup.
