The Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Public Enlightenment, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, has debunked claims that former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa expressed regret over being the Vice Presidential candidate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election.
Addressing journalists in Asaba on Wednesday, Ifeajika clarified that the viral report misrepresented Okowa’s statements during his recent interview with Arise Television.
“The immediate past Governor, Okowa, never said he regretted being on the ticket with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. He never said he regretted being the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” Ifeajika, who also served as Okowa’s Chief Press Secretary, stated.
He explained that Okowa only observed during the interview that it became evident during the campaigns that southern Nigerians were determined to have a president from the South — a sentiment reflected in the outcome of the election.
