Nollywood superstar Funke Akindele has set new records with her latest movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has become the highest-grossing Nollywood opening weekend of all time, raking in N206 million.
The film shattered the previous record held by her 2023 blockbuster, A Tribe Called Judah, which amassed N113 million during its opening weekend.
Currently showing in cinemas across the country, Everybody Loves Jenifa has also achieved the biggest opening in 2024 and set the record for the highest-grossing single-day performance in Nollywood history, with an impressive N87.8 million.
Released on December 13, the movie had the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film, earning N45.2 million.
The film follows the story of Jenifa, portrayed by Funke Akindele, a lady loved by all in her community whose popularity is threatened by the arrival of a new neighbour. Lobster, played by Stan Nze, runs an NGO that becomes the talk of the estate. However, Lobster’s organization hides a dark secret—it is a front for scamming humanitarian organizations worldwide.
The star-studded cast includes Falz, Omowunmi Dada, Jackie Appiah, Nancy Isime, Destiny Etiko, Patience Ozokwor, Lateef Adedimeji, Bisola Aiyeola, Chimezie Imo, Jide Kosoko, Ayoola Akinyoola, Michael Uba, Tobi Makinde, Hilda Baci, Wendy Ubakanma, Paschaline Alex, D’banj, Layi Wasabi, and Cute Abiola, among others.
