The former Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila is expected to tender his resignation as a lawmaker on the floor of the House of Representatives today.
Gbajabiamila will step down to officially assume duties as the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
The News had reported that Tinubu, on June 2, appointed Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff.
He also appointed a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Sen. Ibrahim Hadejia, as Deputy Chief of Staff; and former Minister of Special Duties, George Akume, as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
While Akume has since been sworn in and assumed his official duties, Gbajabimiala whose tenure as the Speaker officially expired on Tuesday, is yet to officially begin work as the CoS
Concerns had emerged as to how he was going to manage both roles given that the former Speaker had been inaugurated alongside his colleagues on Tuesday and had as well participated in the voting process which threw up the leadership of the House.
With this development, the Independent National Electoral Commission will have to conduct a fresh election to elect a new representative for Surulere Federal Constituency 1 in the House.
