Man arrested for killing mother in Benue

The Benue State Police Command has reportedly arrested one Torngusha Usuwe for allegedly killing his mother after hitting her with a stick at Gungul Village in the Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

A counter-insurgency expert, Makama Zagazola, made this known on X.com on Thursday.

He stated that the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 2:30 p.m.

According to him, the suspect allegedly struck his mother on the left jaw during a domestic altercation, causing a severe fracture.

“The victim, who began bleeding from her mouth and ear, was rushed to Zege Nyion Clinic in Gungul for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead around 8:00 p.m. the same day. Following a report by Terwase Usuwe, a relative of the deceased, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene,” he added.

He further stated that photographs were taken, and the body was evacuated and deposited at the Gungul Memory Integrated Morgue for autopsy.

“The suspect, Torngusha Usuwe, has been taken into custody, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing,” he added.

The police spokesperson in the state, DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached as calls made to his phone were not responded to. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.
