Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi was in the thick of the action again as Stoke City emerged 4-3 winners in the seven-goal thriller against Huddersfield on Saturday.
Though Mikel was relieved of the captainship role in Saturday’s tie with the return of Sam Clucas, it did not stop the ex-Chelsea star from giving his best and ensuring the Potters got all the three points to further boost their promotion charge.
Mikel and Clucas partnered just ahead in midfield and they both aided the nervy win.
Tyrese Campbell bagged a brace as Stoke beat Huddersfield 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
The visitors hit the front through Carel Eiting in the 25th minute after dominating the opening exchanges.
But the Terriers hit the self destruct button as Campbell scored twice inside three minutes with the aid of some slack defending.
Huddersfield briefly drew level through Isaac Mbenza’s cool finish after 40 minutes but found themselves behind at the break after Richard Stearman turned into his own net on the stroke of half-time.
With the win, Stoke City are seventh on the log, just one place outside the promotion places but only three points separate them on top team AFC Bournemouth
