The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has withdrawn its petition against Senator Jibrin Barau representing Kano North Senatorial District to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) saying it was wrongly informed of the activities of the Senator.
DAILY POST recalls that the group had accused Jibrin of alleged money laundering, budget fraud, unlawful enrichment, abuse of office, and contract fraud.
A letter addressed to the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, on the petition against Senator Barau, also included his children and their companions in the petition.
Briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday, President, Northern Youths Council of Nigeria, Comrade Isah Abubakar, explained that the group has intercepted a video clip of a press conference that was read by one Dr Ibrahim Baba Jimweta, the purported leader of “Centre for Democratic Research and Budget Tracking” where he stressed his desire to see Senator Jibrin Barau “suspended and investigated” as a result of a petition by the National Youths Council of Nigeria.
According to the spokesman, “We are disturbed and sad that a person of Dr. Baba Jimweta standing ought to have known that the petition he is trying to draw his inspiration from was written by Northern Youths Council of Nigeria not National Youths Council. It is obvious that the person that contracted him didn’t furnish him with the right information. Jimweta represents everything that is wrong with our country.”
The group noted that it is pathetic that the member of the national institute does not know that a lawmaker can only be recalled not suspended, pointing out that it wondered whether his contractors can get the number to recall an achiever and progressive like the Senator.
The group emphasized, “Like we stated in our notice of withdrawal of the said petition, our secretariat was furnished with misleading information concerning the Distinguished Senator, as people who desire the best for our country, we quickly jumped into writing the said petition without doing a proper background check, the same way a member of the National Institute is doing, alas, we found the information to be totally false.”
The Northern Youths Council of Nigeria informed the public and the person that contracted Dr. Jimweta to note that the group has since written to the EFCC and notified them of its intention to withdraw the said petition.
The group noted that with 2023 fast approaching, it expected to see more satanic moves against popular potential aspirants like Senator Jibrin Barau who has done much for his constituency both infrastructure and empowerment wise, adding that since his likes can’t be defeated in the popularity contests, the likes of the sponsors of Jimweta have resorted to a backdoor approach which will only blow them ill-wind.
The group, however, advised Dr. Ibrahim Jimweta to stop accepting any type of contract from politically exposed persons that have not done anything good for their people but are envious of those doing what they failed to do.
It also advised those behind the guerilla warfare against the Senator to stop hiding behind the likes of Jimweta and come out openly to challenge, saying that politics is about popularity and expect them to go to political and test it if at all have any iota of popularity.
The group enjoined Senator Jibrin Barau to remain focused on attracting projects to his constituency and continue in the good work he has been doing.
