Former Edo governor, Godwin Obaseki said he has embarked on vacation to rest and undergo extended medical checks following the completion of his two term tenure.

Obaseki whose tenure ended  on Tuesday with takeover of  Monday Okpebholo as the new governor of Edo State said this in a statement released late Wednesday.

However, Obaseki, in the statement signed by his media adviser, Crusoe Osagie did not disclose where he was going for the medical check and vacation.

The announcement by Obaseki that he was going on vacation came on the heels of speculation that he may be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC after he exited office.

The former governor had also expressed apprehension that EFCC may arrest him after he lose the immunity conferred on him by the office of the governor. But it was not certain if he left the country to avoid the long arm of the anti-graft agency.

However Obaseki’s statement released on Wednesday evening reads, “Following the completion of his second tenure as the Governor of Edo State on the 11th of November 2024, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki has proceeded on a vacation to rest and undergo extended medical checks.

“Obaseki, once again, expressed his appreciation to God Almighty and the people of Edo state and Nigeria for the opportunity to serve.”

“He urged all Edo people both at home and in the Diaspora to continue to be hopeful and pray for the peace, progress and prosperity of our State and Nigeria,” Osagie.
