On Tuesday, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate Yusuf Baba-Ahmed promised to put a stop to strikes by medical doctors and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) if elected in 2023.
This plan also include the Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU).
At a rally in Owerri, the state capital of Imo State, Obi promised that the schools will remain open through talks with the Associated Students of University of Nigeria (ASUU).
He guaranteed that under his administration, citizens, especially young people and women, will once again be in a position to make decisions that affect their lives. He also mentioned that exports, agriculture funding, and job development will all be high priorities.
The Labour Party’s presidential nominee promised to collaborate with students and make significant investments in the fields of education, health care, and agriculture if elected.
Obi stated once again that he was dedicated to creating jobs and shifting the economy away from consumption and toward production, and that both he and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, had impeccable academic and public service credentials.
He further stated that the ASUU strike, the deterioration of the health care system, and corruption will be things of the past if elected.
Obi said
“If you make me your president and Datti my vice, ASUU won’t go on strike. We will dialogue with them. We will work with the students. The future of any serious country is dependent on their education and health sectors. I will invest hugely in those sectors if you elect us.
“We want to go back to Agriculture. That is why we want to turn Nigeria from consumption to production. We will create jobs and export, export and export.
He added
“I and Datti are not corrupt. Our records are clean. Datti was a senator and I was a governor in Anambra. If you want to check my record, go to Anambra State and verify.
“As the governor of Anambra state I didn’t allocate a plot of land to myself, my wife here or my children. If you see any land I allocated to myself or any member of my family I will quit from this race,”
The party in the state of Imo announced more programs will be introduced to court the electorate ahead of the polls as the 2023 elections approach at this, Obi’s first significant campaign rally in the state.
