Ronaldo carpets Ballon d’Or award, again

By Olaitan Ibrahim

Cristiano Ronaldo has said he no longer cares about the Ballon d’Or award. After scoring a hat-trick in Al-Nassr’s pre-season game against Rio Ave, the 40-year-old striker was asked who should win the Ballon d’Or this year.

He replied, “Ballon d’Or? That’s fictional to me.”

This is not the first time Ronaldo has questioned the value of the award. In June, he said the Ballon d’Or should go to the player who wins the UEFA Champions League. He also added that individual awards no longer mean much to him.

In the past, Ronaldo has criticised how the winners are chosen. He has said that the Ballon d’Or has lost its credibility.

Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or five times in his career but hasn’t won it since 2017.
