Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni, who died in 2021 after alleged bullying at Dowen College in Lagos, has passed away.
Her death occurred in late November due to intermittent blood pressure-related health issues.
This devastating news comes just seven months after a Lagos court ruled against the Oromoni family in April.
The court had determined that Sylvester’s death was caused by the negligence of his parents and doctor, rather than the alleged bullying.
Sylvester’s death was a highly publicized case, with allegations that he was beaten and forced to consume a deadly chemical by five senior students at Dowen College.
Despite these allegations, the Lagos State Government exonerated the accused students and employees in January 2022.
The coroner’s report had criticized Sylvester’s parents for not providing proper care and abandoning him for over 32 hours before his death.
The report stated that Sylvester’s death was avoidable and that he had suffered needlessly due to the negligence of his parents and doctor.
Rosemary Oromoni’s passing has sparked an outpouring of condolences and sympathy on social media, with many expressing sadness and outrage over the circumstances surrounding her son’s death and the subsequent court ruling.
