Saheed Osupa Responds After Burna Boy Names Him His GOAT

Renowned Fuji legend, King Saheed Osupa Akorede Okunola, has described Burna Boy’s recent acknowledgment of him as his “Greatest of All Time” (GOAT) singer on the global stage as a monumental moment for Nigerian music and African cultural heritage.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Osupa expressed deep gratitude to the Afropop superstar, noting that Burna Boy’s tribute not only validated his decades-long journey in Fuji music but also reaffirmed the genre’s enduring influence across generations.

“Burna Boy’s heartfelt tribute, naming me as his GOAT singer on a global stage, is a monumental moment that celebrates the soul of Fuji music and its timeless influence,” Osupa wrote.

The Fuji maestro, fondly called Oba Orin (King of Music), said the honour shines “a brilliant light on our rich cultural heritage, bridging generations and genres worldwide.”

He praised Burna Boy, whom he described as “a true Afropop titan, the African Giant himself,” for recognising Fuji’s role in shaping Nigeria’s sonic identity and inspiring younger generations of artists.

“To Oluwa Burna and every music lover embracing our story—thank you for believing in the magic of Fuji. Thank you for believing in Africa’s ingenious creativity,” Osupa added.

He further revealed his intention to attend one of Burna Boy’s upcoming concerts as a gesture of appreciation for the Grammy winner’s “God-given talents” and “genuine love and affection.”

“The journey continues, stronger and more radiant than ever,” Osupa concluded, affirming his commitment to preserving and elevating Fuji as a cornerstone of Africa’s vibrant musical legacy.
