President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the family of late gospel singer, Sammie Okposo.
President Buhari while sending his condolence message stated that Okposo had mentored many youths to stardom.
A statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, reads in part,
“President Muhammadu Buhari sympathises with the family, friends and professional associates of renowned gospel singer, Sammie Okposo, whose demise left many in Nigeria and across the world severely shocked.

The president also mentioned the Christian Community, Okposo’s gospel music colleagues and youths who have identified with the spectacular style of praise and worship of the late singer.
The statement reads;
“The President commiserates with the Christian community, particularly Okposo’s colleagues in gospel music and the younger generation, who have over the years identified with his elevating style of praise and worship.
“He notes the unique platform of worship created by Okposo, as well as his creative contributions to the Nigerian film industry, and the inspiring role he played in grooming talents and mentoring them to stardom.”
In the same vein, Delta State governor and vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ifeanyi Okowa, described the late singer’s death as a great loss to the Okposo’s family, the state and gospel music lovers all over the world.
Governor Okowa in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Olisa Ifeajika said;
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of an illustrious son of our state and a great gospel minister.
“The news of his death was shocking and it is, indeed, a great loss because he was a valued asset to Deltans and Nigerians, especially as his songs continue to inspire many to worship God.”
On his part, singer Joseph Ebhodaghe also known as Joe Praise posted a picture of the late Okposo on Instagram and added the caption;
“So difficult to take in, but we are comforted because we know you are ‘chilling’ in heaven; a sure better place.”
Taking to his Instagram page, another gospel singer, Nathaniel Bassey, wrote;
“News of our brother’s passing, Sammie Okposo, hit me really hard this morning. I am still dazed. I pray for God’s comfort and strength for the immediate family, friends and colleagues.”
Also, Amaka Okwuoha, alias Chioma Jesus, posted pictures of the deceased on her Instagram page accompanied with a broken heart and candle emoji.
She added the caption, “Rest in the bosom of the Lord, my ‘Wellu Wellu’ master.”
Comedian and singer, Bowoto Tanimola, aka Akpororo, simply wrote on Instagram, “This one enter me.”
Before his sudden demise, Sammie Okposo had been billed to have performance at several events, with one even supposed to hold on the same day he died.
Okposo had already announced to his fans that he would be at the Outpouring Assembly international, in Calabar for the event which was to run from November 25 to November 27, 2022.
He had also posted the flyer of an event he was billed to perform at tagged, ‘Simpli Praise 3.0’, which was to hold at the Royal Oaks Event Centre, Lagos, on December 23, 2022.
He had equally been expected to make an appearance at popular singer, Sinach’s December concert themed, ‘Love Feaemoj
