Samuel Kalu will play no part when Bordeaux welcomes Brest to the Matmut Atlantique stadium for a Ligue 1 clash today.
The Nigerian winger was left out of Bordeaux’s 23-man squad list to face Brest after sustaining a fresh injury setback in training on Friday.
Kalu had made his return against Rennes late last month from a hamstring injury he suffered while on international duty with Nigeria in October. Unfortunately, he sustained a relapse in the same game and had to be taken off in the 59th minute.
He missed Bordeaux’s 2-2 draw with PSG last week and was expected to make a return this week. This recent setback extends his stay on the sidelines.
“Samuel Kalu resumed this morning [last Friday] with the group but he has a little setback on the quadriceps of the right thigh,” Bordeaux coach, Jean-Louis Gasset.
“He is worried because he has the fear of the injury and this morning he was afraid. It is not in the same place as his last injury. We’ll see you tomorrow. ”
The 23-years-old has been in and out for Les Girondins through injuries this season. He has been limited to 7 appearances this campaign.
Meanwhile, Samuel Kalu’s compatriot Josh Maja is in Bordeaux’s squad. He is expected to play a part.
