Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has warmly congratulated Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda on her election as the new Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, describing her ascension as “well-deserved.”
The Governor welcomed the newly-elected Speaker and her team of Principal Officers at a courtesy visit to Lagos House, Ikeja, on Monday, just before the start of the weekly State Executive Council meeting.
Joining him for the reception was his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
During the visit, Sanwo-Olu led the Speaker and her delegation to the Council Chamber, where both the Speaker and the State Executive Council pledged to maintain a collaborative working relationship between the executive and legislative branches of Lagos State.
The newly appointed Principal Officers who accompanied the Speaker include Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mojeed Fatai; Majority Leader, Hon. Temitope Adedeji; Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Richard Kasunmu; Chief Whip, Hon. David Setonji; and Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Sanni Babatunde.
Sanwo-Olu commended the 44-year-old Meranda for making history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following her election last Monday.
This appointment followed the impeachment of her predecessor, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu expressed his commitment to fostering a dynamic and constructive partnership with the legislative arm to ensure the growth and development of Lagos State.
The Governor also called for ongoing support from the House for the swift passage of bills crucial to implementing his administration’s policies and advancing the prosperity of Lagos residents.
He advised the new Speaker to embrace a collaborative leadership approach, using her promotion from Deputy Speaker to Speaker as an opportunity to further strengthen the ties between the legislative and executive arms for the benefit of the people.
Sanwo-Olu also praised the House for its continued support of his administration, assuring that his government would remain dedicated to fulfilling the trust placed in it.
