The police have released social media critic and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, from their custody where he was detained for nine days.
Police claim that VeryDarkMan was arrested and detained following multiple petitions and allegations of cyberstalking brought against him.
His detention had, however, been condemned by his followers and activists who accused the police of infringing on his freedom of speech as been released from detention after spending nine days in police custody.
The activist regained his freedom in the late hours of Sunday. His released was confirmed by the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement. Omoyele in a post shared on X.
Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, also confirmed his release.
He wrote on X: “After five days of back and forth, we have secured VDM’s release.
Thank you to everyone that made this happen especially Sowore, Kefiano & VDM’s wonderful lawyers”.
