Teslim Balogun Stadium Hosts Super Eagles Again In Almost Two Decades

The Super Eagles will face the Squirrels club of Benin Republic in Cotonou on March 25 before hosting Lesotho at home.

Nigeria is ready to hold the upcoming game in Lagos for the first time in almost 20 years as it was conveyed that the 2021 Afcon qualifier against Lesotho would take place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Famous sports journalist, Colin Udoh, confirmed this on social media.

“EKO FOR SHOW: Nigeria v Lesotho #Afcon2021Q in March will be played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos. Plenty to unpack there @NGSuperEagles,” Udoh tweeted.

Gernot Rohr’s side, Super Eagles won against Lesotho 4-2 in the first leg in Maseru last year.

The Super Eagles home games in the 90s and early 2000s was played at the former National Stadium in  Surulere, though, they’ve not played a qualifier in Lagos since the Abuja National Stadium was built in 2003.

The Abuja National Stadium was, thereafter, abandoned and the three-time African champions progressed to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium where they played both Nations Cup and World Cup qualifiers between 2015 and 2019.

The Super Eagles have been playing in different parts of the country since then, including their last qualifying game which was played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

It is believed that the Super Eagles have not lost a qualifier in Lagos and it hopes to beat Lesotho in their final 2021 Afcon qualifier.

Nigeria needs just a point from their final two games to seal qualification. Gernot Rohr’s men will travel to the Benin Republic first before hosting the Crocodiles of Lesotho in Lagos
