Chess sensation Tunde Onokoya has announced that he has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon by an individual.
Tunde Onokoya announced this on his social media page sharing the news.
“For all the dreamers! We’ve officially BROKEN THE RECORD,” he wrote.
Onokoya who is the founder of Chess in Slums Africa broke the record by surpassing the chess marathon record of 61 hours, 3 minutes and 34 seconds.
He set a new record of 70 hours in New York times Square in 2024.
Onokoya’s goal for the marathon was to promote the cause of raising funds to build free schools in Africa for homeless children.
His achievement was only just recently verified and confirmed by the Guinness World Record Body.
The 30 year old founded his NGO Chess in Slums Africa in 2018 in Ikorodu Lagos, in an effort to use Chess as a medium of change and development.
