In what is his third appearance for the Serie A giants, Victor Osimhen scored his first goal for the club in the 43rd minute of their 4-1 victory over Atlanta.
He celebrated by passing out a political message, holding a white kappa t-shirt which reads, #ENDPOLICEBRUTALITY IN NIGERIA.
Napoli resumes Seria A action after the international break in which period they were handed a 3-0 defeat and had one point deducted for failing to turn up for their Serie A match away to Juventus earlier this month amid confusion over Italian soccer’s coronavirus rules.
Both teams came into the tie in good form but Napoli proved to be too strong for their rivals on the afternoon. Hirving Lozano scored twice inside the first 27 minutes to set Napoli up on their way to a convincing victory.
Matteo Politano added a third in the 30th minute before Osimhen decided to include his name on the score sheet.
Osimhen superbly controlled a long free-kick from Napoli’s goalkeeper, outside of the opponent’s area before turning and unleashing an unstoppable low strike into the bottom corner. He was later substituted in the 83rd minute with Napoli leading 4-1.
The goal would come as a welcome relief and boost of confidence for the young striker who had to settle for a lone assist in Napoli’s last game where they outclassed Genoa in a 6-0 win.
Napoli’s next fixture comes on Thursday when they welcome AZ Alkmaar in their opening Europa League game.
