Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered a commanding performance on Friday, defeating Zambia’s Copper Queens 5-0 in the quarter-finals of the Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.
The emphatic victory propelled the nine-time champions into the semi-finals, showcasing their attacking dominance and defensive solidity.
The Super Falcons wasted no time asserting their authority, with Osinachi Ohale opening the scoring in the third minute, setting the tone for a relentless display.
Esther Okoronkwo struck again in the 33rd minute, doubling Nigeria’s lead with her first goal of the tournament.
Just before halftime, Chinwendu Ihezuo capitalized on a defensive error by Zambia to smash in the third goal, ensuring a comfortable lead at the break.
The second half saw Nigeria maintain their momentum. In the 68th minute, Tosin Demehin headed in the fourth goal, further solidifying the Falcons’ control.
The rout was completed in stoppage time when Folashade Ijamilusi added a fifth goal, sealing a comprehensive victory that left the Copper Queens with no response.
