We’ll meet Nigeria’s entire petrol demand soon – Dangote Refinery

By Olaitan Ibrahim

The Dangote Refinery has announced plans to meet Nigeria’s entire petrol demand from December 2025, pledging to deliver around 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit every month.

This is equivalent to roughly 50 million litres a day.

This is according to a letter sent to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and signed by the refinery’s Chief Executive Officer, David Bird.  The output is expected to rise to 1.7 billion litres monthly (57 million litres daily) from February 2026.

The refinery requested that regulators station personnel at its facility from 1 December to verify daily production and publish inventory figures openly. This, it indicated would be to promote transparency and reassure the market.

The company also appealed for uninterrupted clearance of crude oil, feedstocks, and blending inputs, stressing that delays in processing vessels were disrupting operations and driving up costs that eventually fall on consumers.

The CEO said that the refinery remained committed to bolstering domestic fuel security and urged support for the government’s “Nigeria First” policy to ensure stable, affordable supply across the country.

The pledge comes at a time when Nigeria’s downstream sector continues to grapple with inconsistent supply, leaving the nation heavily dependent on imported petrol.

The refinery’s planned output is expected to significantly ease pressure on the market and support the Federal Government’s broader objective of strengthening local refining capacity.
