Nollywood actress Rita Dominic has shared insights into her break from acting, shedding light on her decision to become a caregiver in London.
Speaking at the Women of Valour International Women’s Day event in Ghana, Dominic opened up about a challenging phase in her life where she experienced estrangement from close friends, leading her to seek solace by stepping away from the limelight.
During this period, she gave up her celebrity status and relocated to London, where she found herself grappling to make ends meet.
It was then that she found fulfillment in caring for others, working as a caregiver for adults with special needs.
Despite perceptions of it being a downgrade, Dominic emphasized that the role brought her immense joy and purpose, drawing from her past experiences caring for her ailing parents.
“And then I moved to London and then gave up stardom and then, you won’t believe it.
This is something I never told people before but while in London I was trying to make ends meet so I started working in a care home as a caregiver for adults with special needs, while some might view it as a step-down, I don’t.
“Taking care of others brought me joy and purpose at the time I needed it most because remember I took care of my mother and my father when they were ill because I was alone with them.”
